In this IELTS Speaking Cue Card topic, you will describe someone you know who wears unusual or unique clothes, once awarded with a minute of preparation for two minutes of talking. This person can warm and spread from any profession, background, gender, or region.
Sample 1 – Describe A Person Who Wears Unusual Clothes
Introduction:
It’s not so often that you meet people who wear clothes that are far from the norms of society. Most people stick to conventional styles, but always a few who stand out for their unique and unusual fashion sense. One such person I know is my college friend, Akash.
Who is he?
Akash is my college classmate, and he does not fail to surprise us, as he always dresses in something that immediately draws everybody’s attention. While people like me wear jeans, T-shirts, or formal dresses, Akash always turns up something that captures everyone’s attention. Being passionate about fashion, Akash loves experimenting with the colors, fabrics, and styles people wouldn’t even dare to dream of trying.
How do you know him?
We’ve been studying together for almost two years. He’s actually that guy in my college; we see each other on a daily basis. He just loves talking about clothes; sometimes he explains the whole story of which street it came from and why they decided to wear it as a statement. He mostly posts pictures of his crazy outfits on social media. Then come the comments. Some love his crazy fashion statements; others merely find it all a bit strange.
What kind of clothes does he wear?
That’s Akash! The one with the very loud clothes, oversized and mismatched. I mean, one day he showed up in class wearing bright red pants and a neon green jacket over shiny sneakers. He has this thing with bizarre accessories, like hats with feathers or bags in the shape of cartoon characters. To put it frankly, some of his ensembles belong on a runway, far removed from the average college day.
Why do you consider that his clothing choices are weird?
What strikes me as different about his dress sense is that his style is totally out there, with very few people around being fully accepted as “normal.” I fully appreciate him as a confident and artistic dilemma; however, at times, some of his outfits border on outrageous and impractical for ordinary living. I think Akash is one of those people that loves the center stage and likes to express himself through fashion; although at times I feel that he tries a little too hard to stand out. I mean, it’s pretty inspiring to see someone not caring about judgmental opinions and so at ease with who he really is.
Sample 2 – Describe A Person Who Wears Unusual Clothes
Introduction:
To see someone deviating completely from the fashion norms, especially in day-to-day life, is anything but common. Nevertheless, when I think of an individual fitted with a few unorthodox patterns in dressing, I see my neighbor, Mrs. Sharma.
Who is she?
Mrs. Sharma is a retired art teacher. She lives next door and enjoys bright colors, a flamboyant lifestyle, and an elaborate chic that reflects rather unabashedly in her dressing sense. She is perhaps touching on her sixties, but old age does not prevent her from trying a bold look; it is probably because of this that her name is quite a topic of talk in our locality.
How do you know her?
I have known Mrs. Sharma for several years, as she lives right next door. I often see her on the evening walks or at community functions. She has become known to everyone for her bright and creative clothes, and her ensembles are frequently discussed among the neighbors.
What kind of clothes does he wear?
Mrs. Sharma likes to wear bright-colored clothes with bold patterns and unusual accessories. For instance, she wears long flowing dresses with colors like neon pink or electric blue, with huge hats and chunky jewelry. Sometimes she wears dresses with hand-painted designs, done by herself. She even wears very striking shoes-they may either be bright floral prints or sparkling ones.
Why do you consider that his clothing choices are weird?
I find her fashion choices eccentric since they strike loud, attention-calling poses for her age. While simple and subtle attire is the course that a host of elderly people prefer, Mrs. Sharma opts for dresses that seem as if they are meant for a carnival. Still, I admire her for her self-expression without minding what people say. Her sense of dressing may seem bizarre to many, but it suits her and her lively spirit very well.
Sample 3 – Describe A Person Who Wears Unusual Clothes
Introduction:
Few have the nerve to dress even a little out of the realm of traditional styles. One such person who comes to mind is my cousin, Raj. His sense of clothing is always unique to the extent of making our jaws drop many a time.
Who is he?
Raj, my cousin, is a fashion design student. He has great zeal for clothing, and for trying new styles. He believes that fashion is an art, hence his cupboard remains packed with dresses that most people would balk at wearing.
How do you know him?
Since Raj is my cousin, I have known him since childhood. We meet often on family gatherings, and he always becomes the center of attention because of his unusual dressing style. Even on casual occasions, like a family dinner, he would wear something that turns heads.
What kind of clothes does he wear?
Raj loves to throw together traditional and modern looks. I saw him once wearing a kurta with torn jeans and sneakers; it seemed a little strange. Lesser known is how he does not shy away from brights; yellow, purple, and orange are all part of Raj’s wardrobe. He casually accessorizes with bold pieces like scarves, hats, and huge sunglasses. Recently, he even wore a jacket with cartoon prints all over it.
Why do you consider that his clothing choices are weird?
His clothing choices elicit weirdness in me, as they are unconventional for regular situations. While most of us adhere to safe and simple clothing, Raj’s outfits look like they belong on a fashion show runway. During some of his strange outfits, I admire his creativity and confidence.

1. Where do people from your country buy clothes?
In my country, people buy clothes from various sources. Many prefer buying from markets or street vendors because it is affordable and trendy. Those who have a higher budget will choose to shop in branded outlets or designer boutiques. The trend of buying clothes online is up, given its convenience, discounts, and communication with global fashion.
2. What’s the difference between men and women’s choices of clothes?
There is certainly some difference in clothing choices made by men and women. Men greatly favor simpler, comfier, and essentially functional clothing like t-shirts, jeans, and shirts, while women tend to have a much wider choice of dresses, skirts, sarees, and fashionable tops. Women tend to experiment a lot with combinations of colors, patterns, and accessories, while men usually stay closer to neutral or minimal styles.
3. Do clothes affect people’s mood?
Sure, I know that clothes can make someone feel one type or another. Elegantly fitted and stylish clothes induce a sense of confidence, which in turn boosts anyone’s spirits. Bright colors or those with some liveliness have been known to inspire liveliness; on the contrary, dull colors or dark shades can on occasion induce a sense of lethargy or inactivity. Clothes will also set the tone for the day-dressing formality imparts a sense of professionalism while casual dressing promotes relaxation.
4. What do people consider when buying clothes?
While shopping, the general factors in the minds of people are quality against price, comfort, and fit, as none of us would like to wear something uncomfortable. Other aspects are fashion, seasonal variation, weddings, casual outings, or work clothes.
5. How often do people go to buy clothes?
How functional and how often people wear clothes, mainly depend on their lifestyles. Some fashion lovers regularly update their wardrobes every month or so, in order to keep up with trends. Others will buy clothes occasionally, mostly during sales at special times of the year, such as the holiday season. Other people invest once in a while in expensive clothes, fabric of superior quality, which have a longer life in terms of years.
